The Valley Soccer Team posted it’s second straight victory with a conference win over rival North Miami 4-0, on the Warriors home field. The first half was back and forth as both defenses dominated play and neither team mounted many scoring opportunities on the hot steamy night. Viking defenders, Jorge Rosas, Arturo Dominguez, Jakob Jones and Jessica Brito did an excellent job along with the stellar keeper play of Alexis Hernandez to keep North Miami off the scoreboard. Valley’s midfielders also played well during the first half as they maintained the possession of the ball, but couldn’t score. Jon Ruiz, Uvaldo Gutierrez and Obaldo Sanchez moved the ball well, but couldn’t crack the Warrior defense. The teams went to intermission tied at 0-0 and it looked at that point one goal would win the game.
However, Valley came roaring out of the gate as the second half opened. Caleb Petgen took a beautiful cross from Christian Ramirez and found the net just two minutes into the second half. That broke the ice as the Vikings led 1-0. Thirteen minutes later, Tyler Jones scored his initial goal of the season to put the Vikings up 2-0. At that point, Valley controlled the rest of the match. Branden Montes got into the act scoring with about fifteen minutes left to put Valley up 3-0. Finally, with about nine minutes to play, Petgen added his second goal of the night to complete the scoring at 4-0.
The win evened the Vikings conference record at 2-2. They need to carry their good play into Thursday’s home match at 5:45 against Peru.
