The Tippy Valley Vikings traveled to Winamac to take part in the Winamac Soccer Invitational over the weekend.. Valley took on the host Warriors in game 1 of the tournament and dropped a tough 2-1 contest. Valley was down 2-0 with only seven minutes left, but Joel Cisneros pushed a shot past the Winamac goalie to cut the lead in half. Roughly 4 minutes later, Alexis Aguilar knotted the game at 2-2, only to have the goal waved off by an offsides call. That’s where the game ended.
In the consolation game, the Vikings took on the Senators from Washington Township. The Vikings quickly found themselves in a 1-0 hole 5 minutes into the game, which grew to 3-0 by halftime.
However, Valley regrouped at the half and rallied for an exciting 4-3 over the Senators. Harrison Vining connected on a penalty kick 2 minutes into the half. Playing with urgency and determination, Valley put 3 more goals in the net, all scored by Freshman, Caleb Pentgen. Pentgen’s third goal, a beautiful header off a corner kick from Vining, with about 8 minutes remaining, put the Vikings up for good at 4-3. They held on to pick up the victory.
